The week kicked off with an RV-friendly ferry ride to Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands. This would serve as the main headquarter (HQ) and start/finish for the week-long expedition race.
The next two days consisted of skills testing, check-in and shaking off pre-race jitters. ASM had prime parking adjacent to the start/finish chute. Athletes were quite excited to see that ASM and its respective tour sponsors had made the trip to the islands. The remainder of the time leading up to the event, ASM set up a booth at the athlete check-in tent to promote the magazine, Tour, and all sponsors aboard.
Following the prologue event and the actual race start leg (51 mile kayak to the mainland), the ASM Mobile Tour was on a roll to keep up with the speedy expeditionary gurus as they traveled 400+ miles. Equipped with mytopomaps, Ty and crew were on track to be where all the action was through the week. They had an adventurous trek through the course leading from TA to TA offering coffee, spectatorship, and plenty of magazines to go around. At one point Ty noticed the entire medical staff was kicking back with a coffee in one hand and an ASM in the other (it was a beautiful site form a promotional perspective).
