After a couple days in the San Juan Mountains, the RV arrived Friday for registration. It was a great location at the base of the ski slopes at Durango Mountain Resort (still considered Purgatory Village to the locals). Mike, Chrissie and Grayson Lee were there to help with promotions for the event. Following registration, there was a bar-b-q and a sponsor schwag giveaway, combining efforts with EMS. It was a great time with many happy winners!

Race morning kicked off at 5:30 am for the 24-hour racers. Brian Metzler (ASM Editor-in-Chief) was on hand with a 4-person coed team representing the magazine in full force. Shortly following was the start of the 12-hour race at 7:30 am just ten miles down the road at the kayak drop-in check point.

Mike Lee and Ty spent the morning seeing the athletes off to a great start at both locations. They returned in the afternoon to greet the first 12-hour racers as they finished on a solid downhill run galloping down the slopes to the Chalet finish.

The fun really started about 11:30 pm that evening as Team Crested Butte reached the finish line, the first of the 24-hour racers. As the evening continued, the temperatures dropped about 20-30 degrees. The ASM crew stayed up through the night to keep finishing athletes warm with coffee and tea from the RV. It was a great closing to an awesome day of adventure racing!
