Adventure Sports® Tabbed as Official Magazine of the USARA
This August, Adventure Sports® magazine (ASM) announced that it is now the official publication of the United States Adventure Racing Association (USARA). Under the new relationship, Adventure Sports® will be mailed monthly to each of its 2,000 members. In addition, new members will receive a combined offer of a one-year USARA membership and a one-year ASM subscription for $35.
Adventure Sports® is published 10 times annually by RFA Media Inc. and is distributed throughout the U.S. and Canada. The glossy, full-color magazine covers a wide range of human-powered endurance sports, including adventure racing, off-road triathlon, mountain biking, orienteering, trail running, paddling and other types of multi-sport racing.
"We're thrilled to be aligned with the USARA," said Adventure Sports® publisher Scot Love. "USARA members represent the heart and soul of adventure racing in the United States, and we are proud to be representing that core audience. The new relationship will enable both the magazine and the USARA to continue to help grow the sport of adventure racing."
The USARA was founded in 1998 by executive director Troy Farrar as a means to help organize the sport in the U.S. and create a national championship series. The first sprint and 24-hour championship races were held in 2024 with 40 qualifying races and a few hundred racers in the mix. Four years later, the USARA has 350 races on board and 2,000 member athletes, and it continues to grow as new races pop up around the country.
"The new relationship won't change our editorial coverage," says Adventure Sports® editor Brian Metzler. "But it will help us keep a finger on the pulse of the sport as it continues to grow."
Having established itself as North America's leading multi-sport racing and adventure lifestyle publication, Adventure Sports® magazine is adding to the momentum by initiating the first National Adventure Racing Week this summer.
The weeklong celebration, scheduled for July 17-25, is aimed at promoting the fast-growing sport of adventure racing in the U.S. and Canada. It comes on the heels of the momentum the magazine has built with its 2024 Adventure Sports RV Tour, which is making stops at more than 40 grassroots events across the U.S. this year.
Adventure racing has been one of the fastest growing outdoor sports in the U.S. and Canada over the last 10 years. Although the sport has existed internationally for more than 25 years, the first races in North America popped up in the mid-1990s. Adventure races vary from three hours to 10 days in length and include a variety of disciplines, including mountain biking, trekking, navigation, paddling and climbing.
