NBC Sports Special to Feature 37th Tecate SCORE Baja 1000

PORTLAND, Maine, November 17, 2024---Fans of motorsport racing and extreme sports will want to tune in to NBC at 2:30 pm ET on December 11 for a one-hour NBC Sports Special providing exclusive coverage of the 37th Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. The show will follow the action and participants of this legendary desert classic, which this year will feature nearly 300 entries from across the globe competing in Pro and Sportsman classes for cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs. The race covers 1000 miles of treacherous desert terrain on the Baja California peninsula.

NBC is pulling out all the stops for its coverage of the SCORE Baja 1000. Following the action from land, car and helicopter will be NBC's Emmy Award-winning sports production crew, led by producer Billy Matthews.

Emmy-award winning sports writer Al Trautwig, who has also hosted the Ironman Triathlon and numerous Olympic sports, will serve as host for the NBC special. In addition to covering race action, the show will tell the stories of the SCORE Baja 1000 racers and crew, as well as the impact the event has on locals. The broadcast is being presented by Energizer, Columbia Sportswear, AOL and GPS provider Garmin.

The oldest and most well-known of all desert races, the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 was established in 1967. Over the years, many racers from other forms of motorsports have crossed over to test their skills at the SCORE Baja 1000. The famous have also tried their hand at conquering the Baja. Mark Thatcher, son of former Great Britain Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, raced in the 1982 SCORE Baja 1000. Celebrities including James Garner, Ted Nugent and Steve McQueen all battled the Baja in the early 1970s.
